orthogonal

数学では「直交する」という意味であり、CDMAの仕事をしていた頃には良く使った単語。そこから派生して、「独立している」「関連していない」または「変更が他のものに影響しない」という意味で使う。日本語でも「直交概念」という言い方をする、あれ。

ちなみに、普通の会話で「直角」と言いたい時は、orthogonal よりも perpendicular の方が一般的らしい。ちょっと snobby な言い方だと言われたことがある。

go-to guy

何か問題があったり質問があったりしたときにまず聞きに行く人。開発チームで広い知識を持つ、話しやすい人がこれになりやすい。特別技術的な言い回しではないが、実際仕事場で良く聞く表現である。
He is the go-to guy for the build process.
As a first achievement of my career plan, I want to be the go-to guy in the team.

loose ends

完全に出来上がっていない、細かい仕事のやりのこし。元の意味は、紐の端がほつれている状態のことか。null チェックや、範囲外入力への対応などを指して言うことが多い。
This code is just a prototype; there are lots of loose ends.

いわば細かいバグのことをこういうこともあるのだが、bug とは違って、修正する時には squish とか remove とかの単語はあまり使わない。tie up とか tidy up とか言う。clean up を使うこともある。
This function is to tie up a few loose ends around the range check.
I will check it in after cleaning up some more loose ends.

radar scope

今すぐ取り掛かるほどプライオリティが高いわけではないが、様子を見ておきたい程度の仕事について使う。そう言えば、日本でも「ウォッチしておこう」なんて言う人もいる。そんな意味。
