騙されたってことなんだろうけど
１年半ほど前に2004年モデルの中古車を買ったのだが、早くもフロントバンパーの塗装が褪せてきた。アメリカでちょくちょく見かけるボロ車の風情が漂ってきた。そういうわけでディーラーに持って行って、品質保証で直してもらえるかを見てもらった。
そして、説明。
「このバンパーは塗り直されてますね。フロントバンパーだけじゃなく、リヤバンパーもです。ほら、リヤバンパーのここに、わずかですがスジが見えます。この方向に塗ったということです。フロントバンパーのここ、良く見ると少し膨らみがありますね。指で触ると分かるでしょう。ペイントの下にゴミがあるということです。これはトヨタ工場の仕事ではありません。残念ながら、これでは保証でカバーできません。新車で買ったのですか？ああ、中古車ですか。ひょっとすると、前の持ち主が売る前に、傷を隠すためにバンパー全体を塗り直したのかも知れませんね」
つまり、騙されたってことか。買ったときに見てみた分には、色は完全に車体部分とマッチしていたはずだけどなあ。色が褪せ始める前には全然気づきようのないレベルだった。というか、今でも自分ではそれが塗り直した証拠になるのかイマイチ分からない。ごく微妙な凹凸だし、色褪せていない部分は綺麗なもんだ。
