Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

邦題は「チャーリーとチョコレート工場」。以前から思っていたことだが、やはりティム・バートンは天才である。

子供向けにジャンル分けされるこの映画はそれほど複雑なストーリー展開があるわけではないが、とにかく引き込まれる。手に汗握ってしまう。次に何が起こるか全然分からず、予想しない展開に驚きながらも「なんでそうなるんだ」的な違和感を感じさせない。まだ観ていない人にあらすじを説明したら「なんだそりゃ」といった話かも知れないが、映像の説得力でそんな細かいものは捻じ伏せられたような感じである。

最初に出てくる街並みからして嘘臭い。「シザーハンズ」の導入部でもやたらと綺麗なパステルカラーの住宅街が出てきて少々違和感を持ったが、ここから既に虚構世界への引きずり込みが始まっているのだろう。有名なブランドのチョコレートであることは分かるが、何故工場への見学チケットで世界中のマスコミが大騒ぎするのかが既に何かオカシイ。しかし、チャーリーがチケットを手に入れられるかどうかのシーケンスは良質のサスペンスである。一喜一憂しながらどんどん引き込まれて行き、チョコレート工場のゲートが開く頃には、完全に虚構の世界を受け入れる心の準備がしっかり出来ている。

映像は最初から最後までダレる所が無く、ジョニー・デップの妖しさ加減も絶好調である。あの白塗りと帽子、脇から覗く髪型、そして紫色の手袋がまたイカしている。アメリカのパパママが安心して迎えられるエンディングもよく出来ており、最後にああ、そうだこれは御伽噺だったんだと気がついてスタッフロールを迎える。

不思議な世界でありながら非常に気持ちのいい、観終わってニコニコしてしまうような楽しい映画である。
